Run SQL Server Management Studio as Different User

To connect to SQL Server with different login using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and Windows Integrated Security, you need to open SSMS with "Run as different user".

When you right click on the SSMS shortcut or executable, the 'Run as different user' option might not be available:

ssms_run_as_different_user_not_visible

To use the 'Run As...' or 'Run as different user' option, hold the Shift Key and Right Click on the SSMS shortcut or executable:

ssms_run_as_different_user_shift_click

Enter the User Name and Password to run SQL Server Management Studio and connect to SQL Server as different user:

ssms_run_as_different_user

'Run as different user' using command prompt:

Run this command from the command line (path to the location of ssms.exe may be different):

runas /user:domain_name\user_name "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Tools\Binn\ManagementStudio\Ssms.exe"

...and enter the password for the user:

ssms_run_as_different_user_cmd
